UPG student center renamed for Chambers

The Common Facilities Building (student center) at Pitt's Greensburg campus (UPG) has been renamed Chambers Hall in honor of recently retired UPG President George F. Chambers.

The building was renamed during a June 20 ceremony attended by approximately 75 people, including UPG interim President Norman Scanlon and advisory board member John Driscoll.

In his remarks, Driscoll noted that Pitt's Board of Trustees, in allowing the building to be named for Chambers, made an exception to the University's policy of only using the names of deceased individuals on buildings. Driscoll said the exception was granted by the trustees in light of Chambers's efforts in building the UPG campus. During his 16-year tenure at UPG the campus more than doubled in physical size.

"This building is special to me," said Chambers as he unveiled the plaque with his name on it. "I am delighted to have my name attached to it."
