UPT quilt given to Tanzanian hospital

A quilt created by Pitt-Titusville student accounts manager Kathleen Plyler, is on display at Nyakahanga Hospital in Tanzania in commemoration of five years of collaboration between the University and the hospital.

The work includes an original African wax batik purchased by UPT faculty during a 2005 trip. UPT anthropology and biology professor Linda Winkler delivered the quilt to the hospital during a visit this summer.

Winkler presents Plyler’s wall hanging to Joseph Kashashari of Nyakahanga Hospital in Tanzania.

Since 2002 Pitt faculty and student groups in community health and anthropology programs have visited the hospital, where they are involved in ongoing research and medical internships, as well as with an AIDS control program.
