Family Hospice, UPMC join forces

UPMC Senior Living has teamed up with Family Hospice and Palliative Care to help end-of-life patients make better, informed decisions. The circle of life program, recently introduced in the UPMC Senior Living skilled nursing facilities, combines traditional care along with specialized expertise of the Family Hospice and Palliative Care staff.

Pittsburgh has one of the largest senior populations per capita in the United States. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, over the next few decades the number of people age 65 or older will increase dramatically. The shift in older America will put an increased demand on the health care system, including medical and social services.

UPMC Senior Living and Family Hospice and Palliative Care are preparing for this trend by coordinating care through experienced physicians, social workers, spiritual counselors and volunteers. Complimentary therapies, such as art, music, massage and pet therapies, as well as creation of a life legacy, will enhance the program’s overall mission to guide patients.

UPMC Senior Living has locations throughout western Pennsylvania.
