Sebak to speak at UPG fundraiser

Rick Sebak of WQED Pittsburgh, the producer of public-television documentaries that chronicle the charms of American and regional life, will be the master of ceremonies for the annual La Cultura dinner at the Greensburg campus set for 6 p.m. Jan. 13.

The annual dinner raises money for Pitt-Greensburg’s study abroad programs. This year the event will feature the history, culture and cuisine of China.

The cost of the dinner is $130 per person or $1,040 for a table of eight. Reservations made before Dec. 15 are $115 per person or $920 for a table of eight. For information, call 724/836-7497.

At WQED Pittsburgh, Sebak has produced 19 special programs that make up the Pittsburgh History Series, including “Kennywood Memories,” “Pittsburgh A to Z” and “Things That Aren’t There Anymore.” He is working on two new projects, “To Market to Market to Buy a Fat Pig” and “Underground Pittsburgh,” both scheduled to air in 2007.

Serving as honorary co-chairs for the event are Shujiang Lu, who was born in China and is an assistant professor of English at Pitt-Greensburg, and Amy Min Gong, who also is a native of China and teaches Chinese as an adjunct faculty member at Westmoreland County Community College.

The premier sponsor of the event is Chartwells Educational Dining Services. Fotorecord Print Center has donated all printed materials for the event.
