Car-sharing program debuts

A new car-sharing service has arrived in Pittsburgh. May 1 marked the start of Seattle-based Flexcar’s service, which allows members to rent cars by the hour.

The company is collaborating with the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership in the endeavor (See April 5, 2007, University Times.)

Sixteen vehicles are in place in the Pittsburgh area. Two cars are based in Oakland and spaces are being sought for four more. Initially, one Flexcar vehicle will be parked in the Forbes Tower surface lot at 212 Atwood Street and another in the driveway of UPMC Presbyterian at 200 Lothrop Street. Additional information on the service and on vehicle locations is available online at www.flexcar.com.
