GSPH fundraiser nets $2,700
The Graduate School of Public Health raised $2,700 at an art and jewelry sale fundraiser to benefit the Evelyn H. Wei Memorial Scholarship Award in Epidemiology. The June 1 event, which featured works handmade by faculty, staff and friends of GSPH, drew 178 people.
Organized by Kim Sutton-Tyrrell, vice chair for academics in epidemiology, the sale involved the efforts of approximately 50 volunteers.
The scholarship fund was established in memory of Pitt researcher Evelyn Wei, who was struck by a vehicle in 2004 while walking near her Regent Square home. Wei earned her PhD in psychiatric epidemiology at GSPH; her mother, Yuling Wei, was a senior research associate in the Department of Epidemiology.
The event, held on the first Friday in June and December each year, has raised more than $13,000 since its inception in December 2004.
The next sale date is set for Dec. 7.
