Darragh St. restrictions altered

Upcoming events are pre-empting several days of scheduled Darragh Street closings.

Darragh is closed from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday between Terrace and Allequippa streets to allow crews to install a new west loop steam line 20 feet underground.

However, the street will remain open Friday to accommodate traffic expected for the Carrie Underwood concert at the Petersen Center. The street also will remain open Feb. 26 and 27 due to WPIAL swimming championships at Trees Hall and a Feb. 27 men’s basketball game. Darragh also will be open March 8 to accommodate the Eastern Wrestling League championship at the Fitzgerald Field House, said project manager Christopher L. Niemann of Facilities Management.

The work is expected to be complete by March 12.

Once the Darragh Street work is finished, digging will start to enable the steam line to cross Terrace Street. That work is expected to result in at least a one-lane restriction on Terrace Avenue.

The new line completes a loop to provide redundancy for UPMC and Pitt upper campus buildings served by the Carrillo steam plant.
