Forbes Ave. traffic restrictions to last through August

Single-lane traffic on Forbes Avenue between Moultrie Street and McDevitt Place is expected to continue through late August.

Two lanes of Forbes Avenue were closed earlier this week to allow work crews to construct new drainage facilities and a retaining wall on Forbes Avenue. The work is part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s $29 million project to replace the Boulevard of the Allies Bridge and ramps.

Forbes Avenue was closed completely for several weekends in January and February to allow for the demolition of the bridge and ramp structures overhead. More full closings are anticipated in June to accommodate placement of new bridge beams. Dates for those closings have not yet been set, said PennDOT spokesperson James Struzzi.

The bridge is expected to reopen in late November with construction scheduled to wrap up next May.
