Hearing health info sessions planned

The Department of Audiology and Hearing Aids at Eye and Ear Institute is offering free informational sessions on hearing health care.

Each session offers three one-hour classes, and participants can choose to attend one, two or all three classes, which will be held at Eye and Ear Institute, 203 Lothrop St., on July 10, 5-8 p.m.; Aug. 14, 12:30-3:30 p.m., and Sept. 11, 5-8 p.m.

Class subjects will include:

• Understanding hearing loss. Designed for anyone affected by hearing loss, either personally or through someone else, this class will provide information on how hearing loss can impact daily life. Topics will cover communication difficulties associated with hearing loss, types of hearing loss and understanding hearing loss and hearing tests.

• Hearing aid technology. This class will inform participants about the different styles and technologies of hearing aids, as well as guidelines for choosing a qualified professional to assist in the hearing aid process.

• Telephone options and other assistive technology. This class will teach participants about proper telephone and cell phone use for people with hearing aids. Additional information will be provided on other available alerting and communication devices.
