Police cite drivers, pedestrians in safety event

Pitt and city police officers participated in a pedestrian safety event this week in Oakland, to coincide with the influx of students.
During the event, city police cited 10 motorists and issued warnings to 15 motorists and 25 pedestrians in an enforcement campaign to raise awareness of the consequences of failing to heed crosswalk laws.
The Aug. 25 event, designed to educate pedestrians to be alert and take precautions, was co-sponsored by PennDOT, the Oakland Transportation Management Association, the county health department, Port Authority of Allegheny County and local universities.
