WISER gets national endorsement

Pitt’s Peter M. Winter Institute for Simulation, Education and Research (WISER) is one of the first simulation centers in the country to obtain the endorsement of the American Society of Anesthesiologists. The society is an educational, research and scientific association of physicians organized to raise the standards of the medical practice of anesthesiology and to improve the care of patients.

To receive this endorsement, WISER completed a review of its courses, instructors and infrastructure to ensure the quality of its simulation-based education and assessment programs.

WISER is one of the largest health care simulation centers affiliated with an academic medical center. Part of the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the School of Medicine, WISER is a multidisciplinary training institute with participants ranging from students in the schools of the health sciences to paramedics, nurses, respiratory therapists and physicians.

Using lifelike computerized simulators, WISER provided 12,000 training sessions to approximately 3,500 health care providers during the 2007-2008 academic year.
