Studio arts faculty exhibition opens

Department of Studio Arts faculty members welcomed guests at an Oct. 1 reception celebrating the opening of the department’s annual Faculty Exhibition.

Top: Faculty member Sean Derry operates a bellows to inflate a soft sculpture that is part of his work titled, “An Interlude to Stillness.” (A larger installation of the work that includes 35 car-shaped balloons will be on display in the 300 block of South Braddock Avenue from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 22-25.)

Among the onlookers are faculty member Martin Beck, far left, and the department’s acting chair Paul Glabicki, center.

Bottom: Gallery visitors ponder the images of meat, flowers, vehicles and people combined in Barbara Weissberger’s photo collage titled, “Are We Just Going to Stand and Watch This?”

Faculty members will offer free gallery talks at noon on selected Wednesdays. Scheduled speakers are: Oct. 22, Kenneth Batista and Michael Morrill; Nov. 5, Sean Derry, Anna Divinski and JoAnna Commandaros, and Nov. 19, Julie Stunden and Ann Hoffman.

The show continues through Nov. 21 in the University Art Gallery in the Frick Fine Arts Building. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
