UPB prof, wife endow scholarship

Jeff and Joan Guterman have endowed a scholarship to benefit students in the program Jeff Guterman directs at Pitt-Bradford, where he is an associate professor of communications.

The Jeffrey and Joan Guterman Broadcast Communications Scholarship will provide scholarships to undergraduates who have a grade point average of at least 3.0 and are enrolled at or planning to enroll at UPB in broadcast communications.

Jeff Guterman came to UPB in 1985 to start the communications program, which began in January 1989. He wanted to endow the scholarship in part to coincide with the program’s 20th anniversary.

In 2003, Guterman won the Pitt-Bradford Alumni Association’s Teaching Excellence Award. He also has won numerous awards from the Broadcast Education Association for both papers and videos. Before coming to Pitt-Bradford, he was a television producer and director in the Pacific Northwest.

Joan Guterman is a substitute teacher at Allegany (N.Y.) Elementary School.
