To the editor:

I just read the obituary for a remarkable individual -— Frank Colavita and his wonderful wife Harriet (University Times March 5, 2006). I had the pleasure of being on the faculty with them on two voyages with Semester at Sea. They were not only great shipmates but we became very close friends. As a professor for over 40 years I must say that Frank was clearly one of the best teachers I have ever worked with. His care about his students and his humor were always evident. Frank represented in all ways the best of what it meant to be a colleague, a professor and a wonderful person. He was a most caring individual and will be greatly missed.
