Pitt provides support for Race for the Cure

The 13th annual Komen Pittsburgh Race for the Cure will be held May 8 in Schenley Park. The 5K run starts at 8:35 a.m.; the 5K walk and one-mile fun walk start at 8:45 a.m.

The Komen race raises money to promote breast cancer awareness — breast cancer screening, education, research and treatment — and to honor survivors.

Pitt is providing space in the Posvar Hall galleria for registration and for race-day materials pick up. Free parking is available on race day at all Pitt lots.

A $30 race day registration fee for adults 18 and over will be charged at the registration tent on Flagstaff Hill, 6:30-8:15 a.m. The fee for breast cancer survivors is $25; for youth under 18 the fee is $20. Each of those groups receives a $5 discount from those prices for registering on May 2 and 3, 11 a.m.-7 p.m., at either the Posvar Hall galleria or Downtown, Fifth Avenue Place, Highmark, 3rd floor. Early registration also is available May 1-3, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. at Dick’s Sporting Goods Stores.

Participants also can register on-line through May 4 at:

Volunteers are needed for registration and race-day activities. For more information, call 412/521-2873, or access the race web site:
