$25k grant awarded for comp sci TLI program

The Department of Computer Science has received a $25,000 grant from the Equitable Resources Foundation to support its Technology Leadership Initiative.

TLI seeks to increase the number of local minority high school students who demonstrate strong academic performance, particularly in mathematics and/or science, to engage in the computer sciences and to explore computer science, math and related degrees in college.

TLI’s primary outreach is its Summer Academy, six weeks of computer science and mathematics instruction, exploration activities and research. Students design web sites, create computer programs, build computer systems, learn about social and ethical issues in computing, create and manage database systems, produce research reports and presentations and use and manage multiple operating systems.
