Manners awardees announced
The University Center for Social and Urban Research (UCSUR) has announced the winners of the ninth annual Steven D. Manners Faculty Development Awards. The awards were established in memory of the center’s assistant director, who died in 2000.
UCSUR offers annual awards in two categories: research development grants to support pilot research in the social, behavioral and policy sciences, and infrastructure development awards aimed at enhancing faculty capabilities to carry out interdisciplinary research in the social, behavioral and policy sciences.
Manners faculty development award winners are:
• Irina Murtazashvili, associate professor of economics, for “Heterogeneity of Family Motives: Altruism Vs. Exchange in Intergenerational Transfers.”
Murtazashvili will conduct this work with Olena Nizalova, Kyiv Economics Institute, Kyiv, Ukraine.
• Brian A. Primack, assistant professor of medicine and pediatrics, for “Waterpipe Tobacco Smoking at the University of Pittsburgh: A Longitudinal Study.”
Researchers will gather pilot longitudinal data to support a subsequent grant application to the National Cancer Institute.
Primack will conduct this work with Michael J. Fine, Pitt School of Medicine.
