Feick named interim business dean

Lawrence Feick, professor of business administration and director of Pitt’s International Business Center, has been named interim dean of the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business and College of Business Administration (CBA), effective Aug. 1.

He will succeed Frederick W. Winter, who is stepping down as dean to continue his academic career in research and teaching as a professor in the Katz school.

Feick, who served as associate dean of the Katz School from 1989 to 1996, has been a member of the Katz faculty since 1982. He teaches marketing management and international marketing courses to both M.B.A. and CBA students. His research includes consumer information searching, international marketing (particularly cross-cultural consumer behavior), word-of-mouth influence and the analysis of categorical data.

Feick is the co-creator of Country Manager, an international marketing simulation game, and has published articles in a range of professional journals.

He has served as president of the Association for International Business Education and Research and the Sheth Foundation.

Feick also has been a consultant to a number of for-profit and nonprofit firms including Eastman Kodak, General Motors and Newsweek.

He has done extensive work in executive education, including developing a train-the-trainers program on the use of simulations, games and case studies in teaching marketing concepts.

Feick earned a B.A. in psychology in 1974 and an M.S. in agricultural economics in 1977 from the University of Delaware and a Ph.D. in agricultural economics in 1981 from Penn State University.
