Children's authors featured at UPG conference
Jacqueline Woodson, above, and Gary D. Schmidt, below, were featured authors at Pitt-Greensburg’s 2009 children’s literature conference, held May 1.
Woodson, of Brooklyn, N.Y., recently received the Margaret A. Edwards Award for lifetime achievement in writing for young adults. Among her books are Newbery Honor winners “Show Way,” “Feathers,” and “After Tupac and D Foster,” National Book Award finalist and Coretta Scott King Honor winner “Locomotion” and Coretta Scott King Award winner “Miracle’s Boys.”
Schmidt, an English professor at Calvin College, is the author of more than 30 books including the Newbery Honor and Printz Honor book “Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy” and Newbery Honor book “The Wednesday Wars.”
