UPJ to offer principal's certificate

Johnstown area educators soon will be able to expand their credentials through a new master’s-level program at Pitt-Johnstown. Beginning this summer, UPJ will offer a Leadership Initiative for Transforming Schools (LIFTS) K-12 principal certificate program. The program will be offered in cooperation with the School of Education.

This 15-month program will include course combinations of online and face-to-face interactions, executive-style weekend formats, summer institutes, internships and mentoring experiences. Teachers will be given support online via “webinars,” wikis and videoconferencing throughout the school year.

Several University partners are involved: Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business; Institute of Learning; Learning Research and Development Center; Learning Policy Center; Urban Education Center, and Watson Institute/Pittsburgh Public Schools/School of Education.

The LIFTS and principal preparation programs promote leadership in the field of education and offer practical, real-world study rooted in disciplinary literacy and organizational theory.
