Research Notes

The University Times Research Notes column aims to inform readers about funding awarded to Pitt researchers and to report briefly on findings arising from University research. We welcome submissions from all areas of the University, not only health sciences areas.

Submit your information via email to: utimes@pitt.edu. We regret we are unable to accept verbal submissions.

In all cases, please be sure to include your name and phone number (not for publication) in case we need additional information.

What we publish:

Internal or external grants for research or projects. Please include the PI’s name, department and title, the dollar amount of funding and its source, the title and a brief description of the project or study. Please remember to include the names, department and titles of any Pitt collaborators. If collaborators from beyond the University are participating in the project, we typically will name the institution, but not individual researchers. (Exceptions may be made for former Pitt researchers now at other institutions.)

Research results. If new research is published, please include a brief description of the findings and where the report is being published (name and issue date of the publication if published in print; or the event name, date and location, if presented at a conference.) Again, please remember to include the PI’s name, department and title, and any Pitt collaborators.

When will the item appear? We do our best to publish submissions in a timely manner, typically within one or two issues after the item is received in our office. Delays may occur if information is incomplete. Research Notes are published as space is available.

People of the Times

The People of the Times column features recent news about faculty and staff, including awards and other honors, accomplishments and important academic appointments.

We do not publish items on journal articles or other publications, or on presentations or lectures, as these are too numerous across the University. We also do not publish academic rank promotions or the granting of tenure announcements.

We welcome submissions from all areas of the University. Submissions should include a subject’s name, department/unit, academic or staff position title and a brief description of the award and awarding institution.

Please be sure to include the name and phone number (not for publication) of a contact person in case we need additional information.
