Welcome Week begins Aug. 16, with early move-in for children of Pitt staff and faculty, and runs through Lantern Night on Aug. 24.
To accommodate the roughly 8,000 students moving into Pitt residence halls, some streets will be temporarily closed during select dates and times. View the Pitt Campus Map for traffic advisories and updates.
And don’t forget all the students moving into off-campus housing in North and South Oakland. Give yourself plenty of time if you plan to drive through Oakland. Parking for the public also will be restricted at all University parking lots and garages during this time.
Parking and traffic restrictions include:

Forbes and Fifth Avenues in Oakland will experience heavy traffic during this time. There will be periodic delays in traffic for mass student street crossings.

Lothrop Street: No parking at the meters from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 17 – 23.

North Bouquet Street: No Parking will be permitted 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 17 – 19.

Thackeray Street: No parking at the meters from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug 17 – 19.

University Place will be closed to vehicular traffic from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug 17 – 19.

300 block North Dithridge Street will be closed to vehicular traffic from 7 a.m. to 7 pm. Aug 17-18

Schenley Drive will be closed from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. Aug. 23 for the Panther Palooza.

Ruskin Avenue will experience heavy traffic Aug. 21 – 22, and parking meters on Ruskin Avenue will be restricted to individuals moving into Ruskin Hall.

Allequippa Street will experience heavy traffic Aug. 17 – 22. Pitt Police will be stationed at the corner of Allequippa Street and University Drive to direct traffic.

Students also will be moving into nearby Carnegie Mellon and Carlow universities next week,.
CMU: More than 1,800 freshmen will move onto campus Aug. 16, while over 2,300 upperclassmen will arrive between Aug. 20 to 24. The only road closures are on Aug. 16: Morewood Avenue (between Fifth and Forbes avenues), and Margaret Morrison and Tech streets (between Forbes Avenue and Frew Street) will be closed between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Carlow: Freshmen arrive on Aug. 20, while returning and transfer students will largely move in Aug 23. The university anticipates about 100 to 150 students moving in each day, according to the Post-Gazette.
