Fall Safety Fair will feature chance to use fire extinguisher

The 2023 Fire Safety Day, sponsored by the Department of Environmental Health and Safety, and Student Government Board Fall Safety Fair will be held outside William Pitt Union on Oct. 3.

The event aims to educate students and Pitt employees about safety resources and healthy habits at Pitt. More than 20 student organizations, University departments, and local Pittsburgh groups will teach attendees self-defense tips, public transportation guidelines, healthy nutritional habits, sound environmental practices, and more.

Participating organizations include the Pitt Police, the Nursing Student Association, Pitt Campus Recreation, the Allegheny County Health Department, the Student Health Service, the University Counseling Center, POGOH, and multiple others.

At the Fire Safety Day, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the right side lawn of William Pitt Union, The campus community will have an opportunity to discharge a fire extinguisher on a propane fueled controlled fire. There also will be information on Pitt emergency evacuation procedures and fire safety aspects of buildings on campus, as well as what to do in case of a fire,and how to prevent them in the first place. 

The Safety Fair is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the left side lawn. In the event of bad weather, the fair will be moved to the William Pitt Union Ballroom

No registration is required, and free pizza, snacks, and drinks will be provided for all attendees. Students that record their attendance will be entered into a raffle to win Apple Headphones, JBL speaker, Pitt merchandise and Uber eats gift card donated from the Office of the Senior Vice Chancellor, Business and Operations.
