Five faculty awarded grants to develop open online short courses

Four recipients have been chosen to receive the provost’s Open Online Short Course Development Grant.

The grants are intended to help faculty develop non-credit, stand-alone, asynchronous courses designed to serve large enrollments for the Coursera platform. Courses must be focused on skills development for the professional learner and have a clearly defined target audience. They also must either align with an existing or future online graduate certificate or degree, or feature application of important areas of University research or initiatives.

The grants, which include a stipend of $10,000 and support from Pitt Online Services, were awarded to:

  • Alan Meisel and Marily Nixon (School of Law): Unlocking the Law: Law and Legal Compliance for Professionals

  • Dan Ding (SHRS): Harnessing the Potential of Smart Home Technology for Assistive Technology

  • Vanitha Swaminathan (Katz): Digital Branding: Principles

  • Anchal Malik Chopra (School of Dental Medicine): Introduction to Dental Terminology

The Coursera platform reaches more than 100 million learners around the world. All full- and part-time faculty members at all Pitt campuses were eligible to submit applications.
