General Education Task Force schedules listening sessions

The General Education Task Force, an initiative Belkys Torres, associate vice provost for inclusive excellence in education, shared with Faculty Assembly last fall, has been established, and will be heading out into the Pitt community over the next several weeks to get input.

Last defined and documented in 2006, Pitt’s general learning outcomes have become outdated, Torres said last fall, particularly in areas of equity and inclusion, language about data literacy, as well as leaving a “weak” connection to ethics. The task force hopes to launch a pilot year of the new gen ed curriculum in academic year 2025-26.

Task force members will explain the process of developing new general education requirements and seek input from faculty, staff and students at in-person and virtual listening sessions about re-envisioning the curriculum.

The listening sessions kick off with a town hall for undergraduate students at 8:45 p.m. March 19 at Nordy’s Place in William Pitt Union.
