Pitt Stages, the in-house theater company of the University of Pittsburgh Department of Theatre Arts, will wrap up the spring season with a production of the jukebox musical “Head Over Heels” from April 10 to 19 in the Charity Randall Theatre.
Set to the iconic music of The Go-Go’s, “Head Over Heels” reimagines the classic story of the Countess of Pembroke’s Arcadia. When the royal family learns that their kingdom is destined to fall to a dark power, they embark on a journey of self discovery that is replete with mistaken identities, romance and lively ’80s pop dance music. The musical blends classical storytelling with modern humor and themes of love, identity and acceptance, ultimately celebrating the transformative power of being true to oneself.
Director Kelly Trumbull is a teaching associate professor in the Theatre Arts. As an educator, Trumbull has collaborated with numerous Pittsburgh universities and arts organizations including Carnegie Mellon University, Point Park University, Community College of Allegheny County, Pittsburgh Public Theater, Center for Theater Arts, City Theatre Company, Propel Charter Schools and more. Her directing experience in Pittsburgh includes work with the Pittsburgh Playhouse, City Theatre Company, Resonance Works, and Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Music. “Head Over Heels” marks her seventh show as a director with Pitt Stages.
The show is suitable for audiences of all ages. An ASL-interpreted performance will be April 12, with a relaxed sensory performance on April 19.
Tickets are $15 to 25 and available online.
