Mascaro Center offering sustainability-related grants for faculty and students

The Mascaro Center for Sustainable Innovation is offering several grant initiatives for 2024. Each of these programs aims to help faculty and students engage in sustainability research, education and outreach.   

MCSI Research Seed Grants in Sustainability (open to all Pitt faculty): Application deadline: Feb. 23, 2024. Full RFP and application. MCSI is requesting grant proposals for faculty to participate in high-quality research endeavors in sustainability. The goals of the grants are: (1) catalyze the formation of interdisciplinary synergistic research teams focused on sustainability (2) fund projects capable of obtaining external funding upon completion; and (3) enhance Pitt’s national recognition in sustainability and the visibility of interdisciplinary sustainability research and education on campus.  

John C. Mascaro Faculty Programs in Sustainability (open to all Pitt faculty): Application deadline: Feb. 23, 2024. Full RFP and application. MCSI is continuing support of faculty fellowships in sustainability. The John C. Mascaro Faculty Fellowships are designed to enhance the University’s mission of interdisciplinary excellence in sustainability research and education. 

MCSI Undergraduate Summer Research in Sustainability (open to all Pitt undergraduate students): Faculty advisor applications due Nov. 17. Student applications open Jan. 8 and are due by Feb. 16. Check back here for application link. The goal of this program is to provide students with unique opportunities to go beyond classroom curriculum and develop their own ideas for hands-on research while working under the guidance and mentorship of Pitt faculty. At this time, we are looking for faculty and staff across the university who are interested in serving as an advisor to a summer research student. 

MCSI support for Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education Workshop. Application deadline: Nov. 30. MCSI will support up to 5 Pitt faculty or staff with interest in participating in the January 2024 two-day virtual workshop, Building a Curriculum Development Program for Your Institution. Participating faculty will be equipped with the knowledge, materials and strategies to adapt this “Sustainability Across the Curriculum” model at Pitt. Send an email to gmk9@pitt.edu expressing your interest in participating and how it would benefit your work and the University’s sustainability goals.
