The number of COVID-19 cases reported on Pitt’s Oakland campus since June 26 has risen to 33 from 29 last week, but of those only 10 are still active.
The four new cases since July 17 among people who have been on campus over the past 14 days includes three students and one faculty or staff member.
The cases that remain active include three students and seven faculty or staff. The total number of cases since June 26 include 23 students and 10 faculty or staff.
Pitt started reporting confirmed cases on June 26, when there were five students and one faculty or staff member who had tested positive. The University has said that the coronavirus.pitt.edu website would be updated each Friday with new case numbers.
Each person who tests positive is isolating in a designated campus location with medical support and oversight or are at their off-campus residence until they recover, Pitt spokesman Kevin Zwick said.
The University will not give specific information about the individual cases. Contact tracing is being performed and notifications will be made to any University member who was possibly exposed. All contacts deemed at risk of exposure will be required to self-quarantine for 14 days.
Pitt’s new Healthcare Advisory Group is developing plans for virus testing, symptom monitoring, quarantining and contact tracing as more people return to campus.
Students are supposed to start arriving for the fall semester on Aug. 13, with classes beginning remotely on Aug. 19 and in person, where appropriate, on Aug. 24.
