Online Celebration of Innovation planned for April 21

The annual Celebration of Innovation — at 4:30 p.m. April 21 — will honor Pitt faculty, students, and regional small business owners, who are creating innovations to transform the regional economy.

The online event will be available on Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship’s Innovation Institute YouTube channel.

Awards being given out include:

Marlin Mickle Outstanding Innovator Award: Recognizes a Pitt faculty member who has demonstrated consistent dedication to achieving societal impact through commercial application of his or her research.

Emerging Innovator Award: Presented to an early-to-mid-career faculty member who has shown a keen interest in innovation commercialization and is dedicated to achieving impact through commercial translation of research.

James “Chip” Hanlon Volunteer Mentor Award: Recognizes the contributions that volunteer mentors provide to faculty and student innovators.

Startup of the Year Award: Presented to a startup launched from Pitt research that is poised to make an extraordinary difference in the lives of people and on the regional economy.

Student Innovator Award: Given to a student innovation team that exemplifies the passion that Pitt students possess to bring their entrepreneurial dreams to life.

Small Business of the Year Awards: Presented to two regional small businesses that are successfully growing and hiring in part due to to the assistance they received from the Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence.
