Pitt Ed Tech Days: Getting started for beginners

The final sessions of the Center for Teaching and Learning’s Pitt Ed Tech Days will focus on helping beginners get started with educational technologies. The sessions will be on Aug. 8 in person in B-26 Alumni Hall.

Faculty, staff and graduate students can sign up one or all sessions.

9:30 a.m., Common Classroom Technologies: This workshop will cover the basics for connecting to instructional AV equipment in the classroom, including common problems and troubleshooting steps.

10:30 a.m., Introduction to Canvas: Registered participants will get a link to asynchronous introductory materials before the session to review at their own pace.

Part 1: Adding, Organizing, and Sharing Content: Learn how Canvas can help organize and present your course content. Using the Pages, Modules and Files features work together to give a flexible, dynamic home for online courses.

Part 2: Assignments, Quizzes and Grading: This session will cover creating assignments, tests and quizzes in Canvas, using the SpeedGrader tool to read, comment on, and grade student work, and using the online gradebook. 

1:30 p.m., Making Your Course Materials Accessible: This workshop explains what accessibility looks like in Canvas and addresses the importance of accessibility in helping all students, not just those with disabilities.

2:30 p.m., Who do I call? Common Issues and Who to Contact: This session will address common questions and issues that come up for Pitt faculty and staff. We will cover specific problems and provide solutions or point you in the right direction of whom to contact. We will provide an informational handout for participants.
