Recycle your eclipse glasses at engineering’s Benedum Hall

The Swanson School of Engineering is collecting eclipse-watching glasses to send to areas where they might not be readily available during a future total solar eclipse.

Astronomers Without Borders has been recycling solar glasses for annular and total solar eclipses since 2008, helping to bring glasses to people who may not otherwise have a safe way to view the eclipse directly.

For example, millions of donated glasses that allowed Americans to witness the 2017 Great American Eclipse resulted in a few hundred thousand that were vetted for reusability, with tens of thousands sent to South America, Asia, and Africa.

If you would like to participate, drop your eclipse glasses in the donation box at the Benedum Hall front desk by April 25.
