Some University Club spaces now open to all faculty and staff

The University Club’s College Room is now open to non-members to dine in or socialize, and the Rooftop Terrace also will be available to all Pitt staff, faculty and alumni once renovations are completed and the weather warms up in the spring.

Last year, the club celebrated 100 years at the Henry Hornbostel-designed building on University Place. Renovations at the outdoor fourth floor terrace, which overlooks the Cathedral of Learning, include stabilizing and repairing the historic railing, replacing a failing roof and saturated substrate under the existing pavers (to be reinstalled), and adding lighting.

The College Room, a lobby-level restaurant and bar, was renovated in 2022 after suffering water damage earlier in the year.

In a message to members last fall, the club said it is “committed to making the University Club accessible to all faculty, staff and alumni here at Pitt. In support the University’s overall diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, we will eliminate the ‘barrier to entry’ created by our membership dues for specific areas of the club.

“Our goals are to increase visibility and usage within the Pitt community, raise awareness of the club to more potential members and catered event clients, and to ensure accessibility to our entire Pitt community of faculty, staff and alumni. This will enable us to welcome more guests into the building and pave the way for the University Club to become the true ‘hospitality heart’ of our campus.”

The Fraternity Grill and Library will remain exclusively available to members, who pay a $20 monthly for a lifestyle membership. A $50 monthly Wellness 360 membership includes the benefits of the lifestyle membership, as well as access to the fitness center in the club. Monthly memberships are open to current Pitt faculty and staff, emeritus professors and Pitt alumni.
