Staff Council Spring Assembly will tackle stress with self-care

“Stressed? Don't despair — increase resilience to stress with self-care” will be the topic of Staff Council’s 29th annual Spring Assembly from 10 to 11 a.m. May 10 in the O'Hara Student Center Ballroom or online.

The group is billing the event as “a great way to assemble for a common cause to support each other.” This year’s University-wide theme, as declared by the provost’s office, is the Year of Emotional Well-Being, and the organizers note that “one of the most powerful influences on your emotional well-being and health is activating the long-term stress-response system. Understand how to manage stress so it doesn't manage you.”

The presentation will review different types of stress and how they affect your perceptions and responses to situations at work, at home and elsewhere. The organization says that the presentation “will also outline how becoming increasingly aware of our stress points and engaging in ‘real life’ self-care practices can begin to help us carry the load with grace, humility, humor and increased confidence.”

Presenting the morning’s program will be Laura Dietz, faculty member in Counseling & Behavioral Health in the School of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences and a clinical psychologist, and her departmental colleague Michelle Schein, associate program director for its Clinical Mental Health Counseling program.

Both faculty and staff are welcome at the event. An RSVP is required here, which will allow you to confirm your choice of attending in person or online.
