Breaking ground in Titusville
Ground was broken Oct. 14 for the Titusville campus's Broadhurst Science Center, a 32,000-square-foot building being constructed as one of the state's Jump Start projects. Over 200 people attended the groundbreaking ceremonies including, from left, James S. Broadhurst, chairman of the board and CEO of Eat 'n Park Restaurants; UPT President Michael A. Worman, Chancellor J. Dennis O'Connor, and Elmore "Stretch" Broadhurst, vice president of Cyclops. The science center is being named for the Broadhurst family, former residents of Titusville, whose $300,000 gift will help to finance the building's construction.
The Broadhurst Science Center will house biology, chemistry, geology, physics and computer labs, an animal housing area, faculty offices and demonstration/lecture halls. It will also feature a 400-seat auditorium, which will provide a new home for UPT's "Spotlight on the Lively Arts" series and other cultural events.
The building has been designed by the architectural and engineering firm of Hayden, Heiges, Sabo, Douglass and Rogers. Construction is expected to begin in spring 1995, with the facility scheduled to open in the fall of 1996.
