Pitt gets Homestead Works materials
An extensive assortment of documents, photographs, films, architectural drawings and maps chronicling eight decades of operations at U.S. Steel's Homestead Works has been donated to the Pitt libraries.
The collection was assembled and donated by William J. Gaughan, a 36-year plant veteran. It includes more than 22,000 photographic prints and negatives of the Homestead plant and its workers, plant floor plans and architectural drawings, along with 20 films made for U.S. Steel depicting changes in steel-making technology over the years.
Collection materials are available to the public at the University of Pittsburgh Industrial Archives at Hillman Library.
