Japanese info satellite center set up in Hillman

The Japan Center for Intercultural Communication (JCIC) in Tokyo has agreed to establish a Japanese Information Satellite Center at Pitt. The center will be located in Hillman Library's East Asian Library.

With direct access to the Japan Information Network, an electronic information highway providing English-language information on Japan, the center will give users direct access to a wide array of Japanese government documents, economic reports and data on topics ranging from education to sports.

The center also will provide information not in the Japan Information Network through its own reference collection at Pitt and through the JCIC research staff in Japan.

Pitt will operate the Japan Information Center under contract with JCIC, which is affiliated with the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Pitt is one of 10 academic institutions with such centers. Others include Harvard, Columbia, UCLA and Cal-Berkeley.
