Total enrollment at Pitt’s five campuses is up by four students over last year – down by 64 students at the Pittsburgh campus and up by 68 students at the regionals – according to figures obtained from the Office of Public Affairs.

This fall term, total student enrollment in Pittsburgh is 26,731 students compared to 26,795 in fall 2003.

By student rank, that breaks down as follows: undergraduate total, 17,181 (compared to 17,413 in 2003); graduate and first professional total, 9,550 (9,382 in 2003).

Full-time undergraduate enrollment on the Pittsburgh campus this fall is 15,080 compared to last year’s 15,141 full-time students, with 2,101 part-time undergrads in 2004 versus 2,272 part-timers in 2003.

Total enrollment at the four regional campuses rose this year, 7,065 students compared to 6,997 last year. Bradford saw an increase of 10 students over last year (1,427 versus 1,417); Greensburg’s total declined from last year’s total (1,864 in ’04 compared to 1,918 in ’03); Johnstown rose to 3,209 students in 2004 compared with 3,146 students enrolled last fall, and Titusville’s total students also increased (565 this year versus 516 last year).

Benchmarks for the Pittsburgh campus class of 2008 continued to rise. Applications to the freshman class this year increased by almost 1,500, from 17,494 in 2003 to 18,973 applications for fall 2004, an all-time record.

Enrolled freshmen this fall had average SAT scores of 1231, compared to average scores of 1213 for last year’s entering class.

Forty-six percent of fall 2004 freshmen ranked in the top 10 percent of their high school class, compared to 43 percent in that category last year, while 75 percent of all 2004 freshmen ranked in the top 20 percent of their high school class, compared to 73 percent among last year’s freshmen.
