A number of upcoming events of interest to the University community were announced at Staff Association Council's (SAC) March 12 meeting. They include:

* The annual Wellness Fair on March 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the William Pitt Union Assembly Room.

The fair will include aerobic, fitness boxing and dance demonstrations, and screenings for blood pressure, eyesight, hearing, body composition and cholesterol. An appointment is necessary for the cholesterol screening and can be arranged by calling 648-8251.

In addition to the demonstrations and screenings, the fair will include free food and massages, and door prizes such as dinners, haircuts, a getaway package and passes to Kennywood, Sandcastle and Idlewild parks.

* The annual staff blood drive on April 8 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Forbes Quadrangle Galleria and on the 15th floor of the Biomedical Science Tower. To schedule an appointment, call 383-1628. Although appointments are preferred, walk-ins also will be accepted on the day of the drive.

* SAC's spring assembly on May 8. This year's assembly will focus on employee assistance programs and stress reduction. Speakers are still being lined up, according to Gwen Watkins, chair of SAC's program and planning committee. Among them will be John Wilds, director of Pitt's Governmental Relations office.

Watkins said her committee also plans to schedule a representative from the Office of Parking and Transportation.

"We will have the floor open for questions and answers," Watkins added.

* Kennywood Day on July 5. The annual outing will include bingo and free lunches for the first 150 people. "We also will have our regular drawings and a coloring contest for the kids that day," Watkins said.

Plans also are in the works for T-shirts and a photographer to take pictures for the SAC newsletter.

In other SAC business:

* Katheryn Seiders, SAC representative on the University health and safety subcommittee, announced that the biohazard subcommittee has met and reviewed information on the registering of biohazardous agents at the University.

"This is basically a form to register people and projects that deal with biohazards to better track and monitor them for safety," she said.

The biohazards subcommittee also reviewed an agenda for a meeting to kick off the implementation of a new biosafety manual for the University.

The biohazard subcommittee is the only subcommittee of the University health and safety subcommittee currently meeting, according to Seiders.
