Pitt students “at a glance”

U.S. News and World Report’s 2008 “best colleges” edition also features “your school at a glance” quick facts, including a breakdown of the undergraduate student body.

Among the 17,246 undergraduates enrolled at the Pittsburgh campus in fall 2006, 85 percent of students, exclusive of international students, came from Pennsylvania; 89 percent of students were full time; 52 percent were female (total women: 8,910; men, 8,336); 81 percent of degree-seeking undergraduates were white, 9 percent African American, 4 percent Asian American, 1 percent Hispanic, 1 percent international and 4 percent race unknown.

Forty-seven percent of students lived in on-campus housing. The average age of full-time students was 20, with 12 percent age 25 or older. Eight percent of male undergrads belonged to fraternities, and 8 percent of females had joined sororities.
