Human Resources moving to electronic application system

Beginning June 15, Human Resources will implement the first phase of a new on-line employment system for all open staff positions.

PittSource, an Internet-based system whereby an applicant maintains a secure personal user account to apply for all non-teaching Pitt positions, will replace the current applicant-tracking software. The new system will eliminate paper resumes and applications, according to a May 20 Human Resources memo to University administrators.

The first phase — the applicant site — will be operational on June 15; the departmental component (second phase) of the system is expected to become operational this summer, the Human Resources memo said.

PittSource will allow applicants to track the status of the staff positions to which they have applied, maintain alternate resumes and cover letters and create a job profile of their key qualifications.

Beginning June 15, all applicants will be required to apply on line using PittSource to be considered for a Pitt staff job.

Some effects of the new system’s implementation include:

• Paper applications will not be accepted after May 27.

• Applicants can apply for jobs on line using the current software through June 14.

• Resumes and applications already submitted will be maintained through June 14.

• All open positions will be transferred to the PittSource web site ad be available to applicants by June 15.

Concurrent with the PittSource implementation, the following changes also will go into effect June 15:

• Unfilled staff positions will remain open for one year. If a position has not been filled within a 12-month period following initial posting, departments will be required to initiate a new recruitment request.

• Guidelines covering the recruitment exception request, formerly called a waiver, have been approved.

More information for department administrators will be disseminated in the next few weeks, officials said.
