Upgrades coming to Fifth & Bellefield intersection
More than 70 people gathered at the corner of Fifth and Bellefield avenues during the evening rush hour on Oct. 10 to call attention to the need for improved pedestrian signals at the busy intersection.
At the event, organized by the Islamic Center of Pittsburgh, Robert Kaczorowski, director of the Pittsburgh Department of Public Works, announced that improvements to the intersection would be underway by January. He said that equipment has been ordered and would take 4-6 weeks to arrive. Upgrades will include the installation of crosswalk signals that include auditory devices and a 3-second delay to establish right-of-way for pedestrians.
