Drink bottle recycling benefits Braddock Carnegie Library

Pitt faculty members Carl Lagenaur of neurobiology and Laurel Roberts and John Hempel of biological sciences check on a drink bottle collection bin in Clapp Hall.

Hempel, who chairs the Braddock Carnegie Library board’s restoration committee, is collecting 20-ounce drink bottles to help fund restoration efforts at the library — the first of 1,679 Carnegie libraries to open in the United States. Collection bins are located on the 14th floor of the Starzl Biomedical Science Tower, the first floor of Clapp Hall and second floor of Langley Hall. The bottles are recycled by New Jersey-based TerraCycle, which donates 5 cents per bottle to collectors’ designated nonprofit groups.
