Pittsburgh Regional Transit has launched the Ready2Ride app, a mobile ticketing system that allows patrons to buy tickets and passes anytime using the app.
For students, faculty and staff, that means switching to the Ready2Ride app by Aug. 1, and no longer having to tap Panther Cards when riding public transportation.
The app is now available for download through the Apple App Store and Google Play.
All Pitt students, faculty or staff members who use PRT — either with a physical or mobile Panther Card — will need to make the switch to the Ready2Ride app. PRT will fully transition to the new mobile system on Aug. 1, and tap-to-ride card access will no longer be available
after that date.
Even if you’re not a daily transit user, you are encouraged to download and set up the app early. It can take up to 24 hours for the system to update and grant access to your
monthly pass.
How to get the app:
1. Search for and download PRT’s Ready2Ride app via the App Store or Google Play.
2. Create a new account using your Pitt email. You must use your original username, not an alias.
3. You will receive an email to your Pitt mailbox to verify your account.
4. Click the Verify Account button.
5. It will take you to a web page to again verify by clicking the button.
6. Wait 24 hours for the account to be ready.
How to activate monthly pass:
1. After the 24-hour waiting period, you should see a Calendar Monthly Pass on your dashboard screen. If you do not see this screen, contact Panther Central for assistance.
2. Activate your pass, then tap the Calendar Monthly Pass and click Activate Ticket, and then again. Your pass will be valid for the rest of the month.
3. Each month, add your Calendar Monthly Pass and Activate Your Ticket if you plan to ride public transportation.
How to scan on a bus, incline or light rail
1. Once you are at your stop, open the Ready2Ride app.
2. Tap your Calendar Monthly Pass and a QR code will appear.
3. Upon entering, hold your phone with the QR code to the mobile scanner on the vehicle.
Contact Panther Central if you have any issues.
