In 2025, Pitt’s Center for Research Computing (CRC) will officially change its name to the Center for Research Computing and Data (CRCD).

The center said that during discussions among its leadership, advisory committee and other stakeholders, the opinion was often expressed that the CRC name “reflected only part of what we do and left out data science. We have always been committed to the mission of helping Pitt researchers analyze and manage data, and the added ‘D’ in the name makes that clear.”

The names "CRC" and "Center for Research Computing" will still be seen on some older materials, the center said, but its new website, which will debut shortly after the new year, will be "Center for Research Computing and Data."
