Panzella will serve as interim vice provost of student affairs

Carla Panzella, who has served as the dean of students since August 2021 and as associate vice provost since December 2022, will step in as interim vice provost for student affairs as of Jan. 1, interim Provost Joe McCarthy announced.

She will assume this role as Kenyon Bonner transitions to his new position as vice president and chief student affairs officer at the University of Virginia. Panzella will serve in this interim role and continue as dean of students until the University completes the process of appointing a permanent vice provost for student affairs.

Prior to joining Pitt, Panzella served as the associate vice president for student life and dean of students at Salem State University in Salem, Mass.

She holds a Ph.D. in higher education from Seton Hall University, a master’s in organizational psychology and leadership from the Teachers College of Columbia University, and a bachelor’s in psychology from Saint Peter’s University.
