2 Pitt projects earn LEED gold

goldThe University has earned the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Gold certification for two projects: its Mascaro Center for Sustainable Innovation addition and its Benedum Hall core and shell renovation.

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) has four certification levels. The most basic is certified, with levels rising to silver, gold, then platinum based on points a project attains in categories related to energy savings, water efficiency, carbon dioxide emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.

Ten other LEED projects are in design or construction at Pitt, said Laura Zullo, Facilities Management’s senior manager of energy initiatives.
