Pitt makes Princeton Review’s green college guide

reviewlogoThe Pittsburgh campus was featured for the first time in the Princeton Review’s annual guide to green colleges.

The 2012 guide, released last month in conjunction with Earth Day, profiles institutions in the United States and Canada that “demonstrate notable commitments to sustainability in their academic offerings, campus infrastructure, activities and career preparation.”

The guide listed 322 schools (out of 768 surveyed) that received scores of 83 or higher on a scale of 60-99. Pitt’s rating was 92.

The survey inquired about such practices as locally sourced food, waste diversion, use of renewable energy, transportation alternatives and LEED certification of buildings, as well as the availability of environmental studies degrees and sustainability committees on campus.

Sixteen schools made the Green Honor Roll list by earning a rating of 99.

The guide is available at www.princetonreview.com/green-guide.
