New book center opens
Following a year in a temporary home on Forbes Avenue while The Book Center space underwent $9.4 million in renovations, Pitt’s bookstore has returned to 4000 Fifth Avenue as The University Store on Fifth in time for the start of the fall term.
Textbooks and other course materials fill shelf after shelf on the modernized lower level, accessible via a skylight-topped staircase.
The store’s street level has undergone a transformation, emerging with amenities selected with input solicited from members of the University community.
In addition to popular books and magazines, The University Store on Fifth has expanded its selection of Pitt clothing and gifts, dorm supplies and other merchandise.
Customers can relax in numerous cozy seating areas scattered throughout the store or enjoy a cup of coffee in its new cafe. Print-your-own paperback books are available through the print-on-demand Espresso Book Machine.
Also new is a technology desk where Pitt ID holders can take advantage of University computer discounts and receive technical assistance from Computing Services and Systems Development staffers.
More information on the new store is available at www.pitt-universitystore.com/.
