Pharmacy faculty member arrested on drug charges

Pharmacy faculty member Billy Day has been arrested on felony drug charges.

Day is charged with 18 counts of “the acquisition or obtaining of possession of a controlled substance by misrepresentation, fraud, forgery, deception or subterfuge.”

He was arrested by Pitt Police, arraigned on Sept. 24 and faces a preliminary hearing on Nov. 20 at 10 a.m. in municipal court. He currently is free on $25,000 unsecured bail.

According to Kenneth Service, vice chancellor for University communications, Day is on leave from the University.

Day has appointments in the departments of pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry, environmental and occupational health and computational and systems biology, and with the Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute.

He also is director of the Proteomics Core Lab for the Schools of the Health Sciences and of medicinal chemistry in the Drug Discovery Institute.
