Changes made in shuttle routes, stops

The Department of Parking, Transportation and Services has changed several shuttle bus routes and stops, and added a new van pool group for employees who live west of the city.

Schedules with the bus changes are available at the information desk in the William Pitt Union, the Parking Office in Brackenridge Hall and the Department of Parking, Transportation and Services in Forbes Pavilion.

Shuttle changes are as follows, according to the Department of Parking, Transportation and Services: * Campus shuttle service for Forbes Hall has been added on the weekends. The schedule for Forbes Hall passed out during the first three weeks of the fall term has been revised. Corrected schedules have "Revised" printed in red on the cover.

* The stop for the Eureka Building on the Sutherland/Upper Campus express is now at the corner of Forbes Avenue and Coltart Street. Stops are no longer made on Halket Street.

* The North Oakland shuttle now stops at Bellefield Hall and the Library and Information Science Building.

* The Biotech shuttle now stops at the entrance to the Syria Mosque lot.

* The Intercampus shuttle has replaced the Northeast shuttle. It serves Chatham College, Craig Hall, the Child Development Center, Carlow College, the OC lot, Scaife Hall and Forbes Hall.

* Following a successful test run, a 15-passenger van study shuttle service also has been established to residence halls, computer labs and libraries around campus. The shuttle operates from 9 p.m. to 2:10 a.m.

For faculty and staff interested in van pools, a new one is being formed to serve the Burgettstown/Weirton/Steubenville area.

The new van pool originates in Weirton/Steubenville and travels Route 22/30 to Oakland. A schedule has not yet been established. The following van pools also have openings: * Work hours, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Allison Park/Wildwood, Arnold/New Kensington, Belle Vernon/Mon Valley, Garden City/Penn Hills, Greensburg/Irwin, Lower Burrell/New Kensington, McKeesport, Monroeville/Murrysville, Penn Township/Irwin, Sewickley/Route 65/Brighton Heights, and Wexford/Cranberry.

* Work hours, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Donora/Mon Valley, Route 30/Irwin, and Vandergrift. For further information on van pools or to schedule a free trial ride, call 624-0687.

In other Parking and Transportation news: * Pitt staff, faculty and students can ride Port Authority Transit (PAT) bus 59U free to Century III Mall on Saturdays. The bus stops at the William Pitt Union and travels to Century III along the bus lane through Oakland to Squirrel Hill, where Pitt employees and students also can board it.

Beginning Oct. 4, PAT bus 12U will begin offering a similar free service to Ross Park Mall on alternating Saturdays. Only Pitt faculty, staff and students can ride 59U and 12U free of charge. Family members and guests of employees or students will be charged the full fare of $1.60 each way. For more information call 624-8612.

* A few bike lockers are still available for rent at a cost of $10 per month. The lockers are located on the Fifth Avenue patio of Litchfield Towers and the patio side of Forbes Quadrangle. For rental information, call 624-0687.

* Bike Fair '97 will be held today, Sept. 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the lawn of the William Pitt Union. New bikes, bike accessories and equipment will be on display. Cyclists who register their bikes at the fair will receive a free T-shirt. The fair also will include food, prizes and music.

* A Department of Parking, Transportation and Services workshop has been scheduled for Oct. 15 from 9 a.m. to noon. Participants will be given a tour of the department and detailed information on all of its projects. To reserve a spot, call the Office of Human Resources, Employee Development, at 624-8046.
